Biography
Mary Lou's bad luck started when her owners decided to leave her alone outside on Galveston Island as Hurricane Ike was about hit….yes, all alone outside while one of the worst hurricanes of all time hit the tiny island she was living on….AMAZINGLY, this sweet girl survived, a true miracle and ended up at the Houston SPCA.
The Houston SPCA does not adopt out pitbulls or pitbull mixes but made a very special exception and allowed Scout's Honor Rescue to take 9 very special, exceptional pitbulls and Mary Lou was one of them. To give you an idea of the odds she beat this time – there were 1000s of dogs for the SPCA to choose from and they picked her!
Here is what the SPCA said about her: "Mary Lou was the first Galveston Pit Bull that I evaluated. She was exactly my type. I love dogs that glue themselves to your leg most of the time and melt when you touch them. My type of dog is usually very appeasing, like Mary Lou is; she runs up to you with her head low and flops on her back when she gets up to you. I like to say that she's very self-effacing. That is not to say that she doesn't like to play. Mary is a typical terrier and loves games, preferring to play a good game of chase that eventually dissolves to rolling around on her back and kicking with her legs up in the air. I've got some pictures of her playing with one of my interns. She never grabs or puts her mouth on anything.
Mary Lou was then adopted and we thought she was finally on her way to the good life but then was abandoned by her adoptive family bc her adoptive mom got married and the new husband said "I hate ALL animals!" and said Mary Lou had to go so poor Mary Lou is once again looking for a foster or forever home! My heart is just breaking for this poor angel who has been abandoned time and time again…..she deserves so much better than this so please, please help us change her luck!
Amazingly, in spite of all of this, Mary Lou is like most all dogs, so forgiving of people and continues to loves them no matter what. She is still as happy as can be and has the disposition that is like a ray of sunshine, just sunny and bright. She was so happy and proud even as she walked into the kennel with her new bone we gave her.
Mary Lou is TOTALLY housetrained and crate trained and such a lady. Mary Lou is about 60 pounds, spayed, heartworm negative and up to date on all of shots and is also microchipped. She is about 4 years old. Mary Lou tested well with cats and has been living with them and did great with them. She kindly greeted the cat at our vet's office too. She passed her temperament test with flying colors (these are tough too!). She would do very well in a townhouse or condo and would be a wonderful companion for any family or person. Mary Lou also does wonderful with other dogs too.
Mary Lou enjoys her toys and chews and minds very well. She is very smart and catches on quickly. She is learning basic commands with ease. She walks very well on a leash and rides well in a car and is just very well behaved.
